Breed history:

It has the same origin as the Spitz, which lives at the North Pole. After it was brought to Japan, the breed was improved and adapted to the climate of Japan. It is beloved and spread in Japan.

Description:

It is a medium- to small-sized dog, with a robust, harmonious body, long rather than tall. The head is triangular, with a wide skull, a pointed muzzle (characteristic of Spitz dogs), of medium length, with a moderate stop and a round and black nose. The eyes are rather big, egg-shaped, slightly slanting and dark. The ears are small, triangular, pointed and erect. The tail is medium-sized, bushy and carried like a ring on its back. It has a double-layered fur, with a fluffy, thick, short inner layer and an outer layer made of long, thick, straight and slightly raised hair. It is shorter on the muzzle, face, ears, front side of the legs and below the hock. It is longer on the rest of the body and even longer on the neck and chest. The colour is pure white, which gives it an elegant look.

Personality:

This dog is intelligent, lively, alert, daring, cheerful, playful, with a proud and elegant look. It is obedient and devoted to its master, friendly with children. It is quite cautious with strangers. It has no problems with other dogs or other animals.

Grooming:

The combing and the brushing may affect the inner layer if done too often. That is why an occasional brushing and more frequent during the shedding period is recommended.

Living conditions:

It is a dog which adapts quite easily to the offered conditions in a flat, but it needs daily walks, it likes to run and to play. It needs training and socialization.

Training:

It is a dog which is easy to train because it is intelligent and obedient. However, the training must be gentle, consistent and well-balanced. It learns fast and it likes to participate in canine sports such as agility and flyball contests.

Usefulness:

It is a devoted and pleasant companion.
