Afghanistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a landlocked country located in Central Asia. It has a population of around 31 million people and an area of 250, 001 square miles, approximately the size of Texas. It is bordered on the north by Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, on the far north east by China, on the east and south by Pakistan and by Iran on the west. A large part of the country is covered by high snow-capped mountains with the exception of the southwest.
