Breed history:

 It is a very old breed, known from a long time ago in England, represented on english engravings from the 16-th century. The name of setter comes probably from the lying position, which it takes when it feels the prey, announcing in this way the hunter where is the prey, and is not moving for not scaring it. The very known English breeder Sir Edward Lowcrack, using the guided crossbreeding the a severe selection succeed during several decades from the 19-th century to create, starting from a very valuable specimen, a variety of very useful characters of the white English Setter. Another variety, known for agility in contests was created by Parcel Llewellyn.

Description:

 It is a big sized dog, strong, elegant. The head is pretty long and sharp, pronounced stop, the snout has the proper size, is long and flattened at the top with a black or dark brown nose. The eyes are pretty big, almond-shaped, dark hazel. The ears are caught down, under the eyes level, in the back, straight and hanging beside the head. The tail has medium lenght with the tip a bit bent, and carried left or upped until the back level when it's moving. The fur has a long, straight or wavy hair, also silky and bushier on the legs, ears, chest, belly and tail. It can be white with blue-black, white with orange, white with light yellow, white with dark red or a mix between 3 colours (white, black, fawn). The general look is motley.

Personality:

 It is a friendly, gentle, sensitive, intelligent, dynamic, calm, sociable dog. It is affectionate and devoted to its master, gentle and friendly with children, even the strangers are easily accepted, also other dogs or other animals from the household. 

Grooming:

 The fut of this dog must be cut and trimmed for the aged hair and brushed between the timming sessions. The hair between the pads of the feet and from ears must be removed.

Living conditions:

 It is a dog with a high level of activity, which likes to make much exercise, to be busy. It is recommended to active persons, who can make time for the dog. It likes to roam, to make long walks, to run alongside a bike. It can be also kept in a flat, if there are conditions, because it is pretty big dog and must to make its daily exercise that it needs or else it could start to make damage in house. It still feels the best in a fenced yard where it can move as much as it wants. It needs training, socialization.

Training:

 The training of this dog must be firm, consequent, but done with a calm, gentle and affectionate voice. 

Usefulness:

 It is a dog used in hunt in open field and a beautiful and pleasant companion dog.
