Height: 25.35 - 29.25 inch
Weight: 68.2 - 114.4 lbs

Breed history:

It's one of the best-known watchdogs in Hungary. Its origin is not clearly established. It's supposed to have been brought from Asia by nomadic tribes. Its existence was acknowledged in the time of King Matthayus I, who had a kennel of this breed.

Description:

It is a large-sized dog, with a well-proportioned, brawny body, lithe in its movements and fast even though it has a massive look. It has a big head, proportional to the body, with a long muzzle, a black nose, a sloping forehead and covered with smooth and short hair. The eyes are slightly slanting and dark. The ears are rather small and placed at the back of the head, V-shaped and drooping. The tail is of medium length, slightly bent at the tip, with rich, long and wavy hair and is carried low. The fur is pure white, double-layered, with a soft, wooly, thick inner layer and a longer, waterproof outer layer, which can be soft or rough, slightly wavy and longer on the neck, chest and tail.

Personality:

It is an intelligent, jolly, well-ballanced, sensitive dog. It barks only when necessary. Strong and brave, it defends the flocks from wolves and bears. Generally it treats children well, it is protective if they are attacked or if the play with other children gets rough. It can have a dominant character, even brutal towards other dogs or animals if it wasn't socialized from an early age. It is devoted to its family and cautious with strangers.

Grooming:

It needs a lot of brushing during the shedding period, especially during spring, when it loses a lot of hair.

Living conditions:

It is not a pretentious dog and is resistant to bad weather. It feels good in an active family with experience in raising dogs, because it loves exercise and it needs it to keep its health within normal limits. It needs socialization and training.

Training:

It needs a firm but gentle, well-balanced and consistent training. It must be trained by a person with experience, who gives it the chance of achieving self-confidence.

Usefulness:

It is used as a watchdog for cattle and farms. Due to its lovely fur, noble look and loyalty, it has become a pleasant companion dog.
