Breed history:

 This dog is thought to descend from the Spaniel type dogs brought from Spain and developed in the Friesland province in the 19th century.

Description:

 It is a medium-sized, strong dog, long rather than tall. The head is long rather than wide, the skull is slightly rounded, the muzzle is conical and has a black nose. The eyes are brown and round. The ears are medium-sized, drooping, covered with long hair at the base and short at the tip. The tail is long with a slightly bent tip and carried low. The hair is of medium length, glossy, straight on the body and slightly wavy on the legs and thighs and short on head. It can be black with white, spotted black, fawn with white and reddish-brown with black and white.

Personality:

 It is an intelligent dog, eager to learn, watchful and calm. Obedient and devoted to its master, affectionate and loving with children, cautious and noisy with strangers, it is sometimes stubborn. It gets along well with other animals and other dogs.

Grooming:

 This dog's fur must be combed and brushed regularly not to get tangled. Excess hair between the footpads must be removed.

Living conditions:

 It is a dog with a high level of activity, which likes to take a lot of exercise. It is recommended for active, sportive people, who have time to tend to their dog, to take it out on long walks, to let it run without a leash, to swim, to play fetch, to participate in varied canine sports. It can also be kept in a flat, it takes the necessary daily exercise, but it feels better in a fenced yard where it can move freely. It needs training and socialization.

Training:

 It is an intelligent, eager to learn dog, which reacts to its master's voice, but because it is rather stubborn, it is recommended that the training be firm, consistent and done by a person with experience.

Usefulness:

 It is considered the most efficient dog by Italian hunters and a pleasant companion.
